This is a great resource for personal reading and reflection. Elizabeth Johnson's deep knowledge of scripture and theology shines through, and she crafts each chapter in a way that seems to really connect with the time of Mary's life, 2000 years ago. Each chapter focuses on a passage from scripture, e.g., the Annunciation, and I found the best way to appreciate the book was to only read one chapter at a time and allow myself time to ponder what had been written. The book is relatively short and very readable, which is a real gift given the solid academic foundation that underpins it - often such books are not easy to read. I think this is a book I am likely to return to in the future because there is so much to absorb it's unlikely it will all have been done in one reading!

I am in a book study using this book and it is generating a lot of dialog. I am only 2 chapters into it but am enjoying it very much.As for the conditions of the book...it was in very good condition and was delivered in a timely manner.

Very thought provoking and a Mary I can relate to with great affection.

This is chapter 10 from Elizabeth Johnson's larger work on Mary giving a good mosaic of her life piece by piece. She draws on many scholars well-known and also includes feminist theologians, but it is not intrusive but very interesting and lets one see from all possible angles. It is a good book on Miriam of Nazareth or Mary the mother of Jesus. It is a good read and well worth while.

I am a big fan of Elizabeth Johnson, having spent 8 months in a study group with "Truly Our Sister." I am presently using "Dangerous Memories" with another study group. We are Protestants who have intermediate Scripture knowledge but not a complete understanding of Mary's role in the New Testament. The book is suitable for group or individual study. Be prepared to expand your vocabulary as Johnson's language can frequently send you to the dictionary.

She goes behind the pretty Madonna's images that we are accustomed to see in our churches, leading us instead into a spiritual journey into Mariam's world.
