Purchased several of these as gifts. This cookbook received an impeccable review by The New York Times. It’s a treasury of colorful stories, lovely photographs and unusual recipes. Also includes numerous vegan/vegetarian recipes.

Have made some of the dishes many times and the recipes are new and I own about 150 books

I bought this for my niece, who has not yet tried any recipes, so this is not a review of the contents. We were both very excited about the premise and philosophy of the cookbook and the fact that a portion of the proceeds go to a cause we believe in.

Many of us, me included, have talked about what an important read this is...and that's completely true. What's also true is that this is a genuinely good book. It's written in such a way that you're pulled in. You're not just reading about Linden, you're experiencing it beside her. Spots of humor stop the story from becoming too intense, and I just love the friendship Linden has with her two best friends. I stayed up way too late reading this, but it was totally worth it!

I was curious to read this just because of the subject matter. I found it interesting and I definitely liked this book but there were some things I felt like we're a little too much fantasy and not reality. I definitely haven't read a novel like this before and I would recommend to others though.

This book creates amazing imagery. You are immediately connected with the three main characters and become emotionally invested in their relationships, thought and feelings. It’s a great read for all ages and you won’t want to stop reading until the very last page. A truly inspirational book that leaves you wanting to make a difference in the world.

The writing was ok, but overall the story was boring.

My favorite quote: "But pain and misery boomerang, and when you dish out hurt, it whips around and slaps you in the face."

In WHERE I LIVE, Brenda Rufener explores homelessness in a uniquely wrenching way, one that forced me to confront my own privilege. Poverty is a topic still so rarely explored in YA. Most protagonists are upper-middle-class, and money only becomes an issue when it's time for college. The daily life of someone with so little -- that's what we see here, and it's so needed. The struggle to eat, to bathe, to find a place to sleep.The matter-of-fact way Linden, who secretly lives in her high school, approaches her living situation makes it easy to root for her. While at the beginning we're not sure how she became homeless, Rufener skillfully scatters hints like breadcrumbs. When all the pieces come together at the end, it's both satisfying and horrifying, and likely true to life for too many teens.And oh, Linden's friend group -- their relationship is so lovely. I've never read a YA quite like this, and that's part of what makes WHERE I LIVE such an important book. It's about homelessness and poverty as much as it is about finding your people, finding your voice, and telling your story. It could have so easily turned preachy, but Rufener's sharp writing and fresh characters keep it authentic and true. I highly recommend it!

Where I Live is the story of Linden Rose and her homelessness. This story is very touching and Linden is such a wonderful character to deal with. Her entire situation was very sad but she made the best of what she had.Linden Rose is a very smart and interesting main character. She might be homeless and living in her high school but she is still a pretty positive and very intelligent about her entire situation. It is so sad that someone her age even has to think the way she does but if she didn't then there is no way she would have survived as long as she did. It also sucks that she has to lie to the people she loves the most because she doesn't want anyone knowing she is homeless.Because Linden has to focus on how to get her next meal, shower or how to get her clothes washed, she doesn't have the time to do normal things for someone her age like fall in love, invite her friends over, etc. Which sucks because she has two of the best friends in the entire world. She feels extremely lucky for living in the middle of nowhere but ending up with not one, but two amazing friends.Linden happens to be the editor for her school blog. She gets really good grades and she has extremely high hopes of getting into her dream college with her two best friends so she can finally have a home and can stop lying to her best friends about her parental/living situation. In order to get into this school though she has to rely on scholarships. Her teacher shows her that there is an opportunity for her to get one but she has to write a really powerful piece for the school blog. With the help of Seung and Ham, the best friends, they come up with the idea to write about dating violence. One of their fellow classmates appears to be the victim of such a thing and they think its a fantastic idea to write about it. They also have hopes of helping this girl out of her horrible situation. But this topic brings back a lot of Lindens past and it forces her to have to make a lot of choices she never thought she would be faced with. And those choices could expose her deepest secrets to the people she loves the mostThis book is based around the topic of domestic violence, violence in general actually. I have read a TON of Young Adult books in my lifetime but not many of them actually touch on this subject. There is so much violence in this world and so many people going through violent situations. It is a subject that really needs to be touched on more and I applaud the author for writing this book not only about violence but about a homeless teenager which is also a very real issue that many people don't even think about.I think the only semi-bad thing I can say about this book is the beginning was pretty slow and I did have a hard time getting into it but after about 75 pages the pace really picked up and I got mad when I had to put the book down because I NEEDED to know what happened. I find a lot of contemporary books usually have a slow start for me.In the end, I am so glad I got the chance to read this book. It was one of those stories that really stand out from the crowd. If you feel the same way I do about contemporaries, that they are all the same and rather boring, then I suggest trying this book out because it isn't like the rest. I really wish I could put some of my favorite parts in this review but I like to keep things as spoiler free as possible. Just know that there were a lot of amazing moments in this book that really touched me. And also know that every girl deserves a happy ending!Overall, I gave the book 4/5 stars.

We bought this book (along with 2 others) in preparation for a trip to Disneyland at the end of September 2018. Overall, we thought it was a very helpful resource, particularly re: tips for minimizing the amount of time that you spend waiting in the various lines. The authors also have a website that predicts crowd sizes at Disneyland and DCA based on historical crowd data; finding and accessing that website was alone worth the purchase price for us, as it enabled us to help manage expectations well before we visited the parks. Their food ratings were also helpful, and we liked that they rated each ride for different age groups.The book is definitely written for those whose primary motivation is to ride on as many rides as possible. That's probably the objective of most of the readers, so that's understandable. But, for whatever it's worth, it doesn't include as much information as other resources do about other activities and points of interest at the park. So, if you're planning a trip with young kids, I wouldn't recommend this book as an *exclusive* resource.

This book will help you maximize your fun at Disneyland. Most importantly, it explains the FastPass system, which you NEED to get the most riding with the least amount of wait time. It has GREAT schedules for 1-2-3 day visits to get you to the rides you want most when the lines are the shortest. Also great tips on food and everything else Disney. This book made our visit on the busiest day of the year in the park (New Years Eve) a breeze!

This is not any more helpful than what can be found via some basic web searches. I still had to call Disney to answer some of my basic questions (e.g. if we get a disability pass, is there any reason to also get fast passes/max pass?).

This book was so very helpful for our Disneyland trip. I hadn't been to Disneyland in about 20 years and knew we needed some guidance when choosing to go 2 days after Christmas. While I would never ever choose to do that again, I feel without the tips in this book we wouldn't have been able to squeeze in all the rides we wanted in 2 days time!

Would. Not. Go. To. Disneyland. Without. This. Seriously when we started planning our trip I was so overwhelmed. I was reading on a blog about this book. Had to get it. Obsessed. Helped plan our trip amazingly. They also have a website which was super cheap when you own the book and they help you plan your day most efficiently.

I have been reading this non stop as I plan my trip to Disneyland this spring. It's my first visit so it's nice to get a detailed description of how to plan. I have not got yet, so I don't know if it will work out, but I do at this point feel prepared for what to expect. This will sound silly, but I just wish there were pictures...

These books are so helpful. Packed with so much information. Love them!

Another Lost Breed MC Book. Aiden and Cheryl are great together. I would have liked a better HEA. Like an engagement or wedding. Even a little more about Cheryl meeting the rest of the club that night. Still loved the story and the series. Can’t wait to read Owen next.

Aiden finally found what he had been missing but sure had a mountain to climb to get Cheryl's frame of mind straightened out. Loved these two together and really enjoyed their story.

Oh i like me some bossy alpha Aiden! With just a hint of danger and a whole lot of swag! Cheryl was well written and a sweet match for Aiden.

A story of two people who meet by accident, at an accident that Cheryl had that Aiden saw. They both have their own demons to work on there are a lot of twists & turns that make a really Great Story. Ail Parker & Weston Parker did a really good book.

Cheryl was in a bad relationship with Vince. Can't understand why she stayed for so long. Do to a fender bender, her meeting Aiden her life changed for the better. As the story unfolds changes are made to their lives. I enjoyed their story.

aiden left Chicago needing to start over.. He found himself in NYC with the Lost Breed but he wanted more.. One chance encounter with Cheryl and she was what he wanted.. Cheryl had a boyfriend though, a jerk of a boyfriend and just moved to NYC. Everything she wanted Vince was giving her except love. Can Aiden show her she is worth so much more?I was really enjoying this book and it just ended.

An adorable story! I simply can't get over Melanie Dickerson's books! She has such lovely, charming characters. And unforgettable adventures. And noble lessons. And victorious, fairy tale endings! ^_^If you like stories of feminine, endearing damsels in distress and handsome, brave, warrior-like knights, you will love Melanie Dickerson's HAGENHEIM series. Her female characters are not simpering fools, but they are sweet and lovely and always the alluring princess who allows the courageous knight to rescue her when in need.This retelling of Cinderella was no different. Gisela is a servant to her snooty, ridiculous, mean-spirited stepmother and stepsisters. She tells herself she doesn't care, and almost believes it. But then the knight she always thinks about and as a child, dreamed of marrying, appears in her life, and nothing is the same.Drama, danger, romance, and breathtaking moments ... The Captive Maiden is a perfectly lovely rendition of the classic fairy tale of Cinderella.

I liked The Captive Maiden (Hagenheim #4) by Melanie Dickerson though it was the least imaginative of the retellings so far – or at least the first half was. It was Cinderella, the classic version, barely changed until the midnight escape from the ball which was when the story finally went an entirely different direction. I liked the story (jousting!) but there were several times I thought it stretched believability. The second half was interesting since it was covering new ground – except it got repetitive so the new ground was…not so new very quickly.Specifically: (SPOILERS) I thought it was a real stretch to believe the bad guy (or his men) were able to sneak in, get in touch with evil girls, and kidnap Gisela all while soldiers were on guard searching. And then the escape, get caught, escape, get caught, escape… Was it just me or did Valten shorten their hiding every other sentence? They hide in the cave, he said, “We’ll hide 2-3 days.” They wake up, he says, “We’ll hide a couple days.” They eat breakfast, he says, “We’ll leave tonight”. So I can’t say I was surprised when they got caught after essentially *not* hiding. Most especially, the climactic ending made little sense to me. The random blindfold for no reason and then throwing them in a tower was crazy. Why would any sane bad guy leave his captives alone together? And then they escape (again) only to discover two more seconds and they’d have been rescued anyway. Honestly, I felt like the whole tower scenario was written just so there could be a “making out blindfolded” scene. Also, the big reveal at the end was too sudden. Some foreshadowing could easily have been worked in earlier.) (END SPOILERS)There was a moment during the grand climax that I expected something to happen and was disappointed when it did not. I felt like there was an opportunity for a more complex resolution to occur and the author opted for the easy way out instead. The romance was sweet and funny but I never quite bought into it. After 4 books, my feelings about the series have cemented – very cute but simple. I still love the series but they’re categorized as light YA romances in my brain now so I can stop expecting more complexity.

She dreams about the day she'll be free from their oppression, but in the meanwhile she's finding ways to make the most of her situation. She also dreams about Valten, the eldest son of the duke of Hagenheim and champion of tournaments around the world, whom she met when she was a child and has admired from afar.When Hagenheim hosts its own tournament and Valten comes back home, Gisela hardly hopes to even catch sight of him. But when another competing knight named Reuxner accosts her in the marketplace, Valten interferes and makes sure Gisela gets safely away from him. Valten finds the outspoken and quick-witted Gisela enchanting, and asks her to be sure to come to the tournament so he can see her again.As Valten and Gisela begin spending time together and forging a friendship, Reuxner sees this as the perfect opportunity to hurt his longtime rival. He approaches Gisela's stepmother and she agrees to sell Gisela to be Reuxner's bride. Knowing she won't marry him willingly, the two plot to kidnap Gisela and threaten Valten in order to force her acquiescence. The courageous Valten has a thing or two to say about this plan and sets off to find and rescue Gisela.I really liked the character of Valten. He's a man of strength and determination, but one of his weaknesses is relying too much on himself. The twists and turns of the story bring him to a place of humility and the realization that he needs to lean on the Lord and to accept the help of others if he ever hopes to free his captive maiden. As someone who is often stubborn enough to think I can handle things on my own, I could identify with Valten and I enjoyed his journey.There are no fairy godmothers in this version, just friends who are there to help Gisela and Valten become who they need to be. The idea of community is not always a popular one in this world that prizes fierce independence, but God desires that we walk in fellowship with others and help one another on life's path. In community is strength, and I am glad we get stories like this to come along and remind us of that every now and then.
