I was hoping this book would be good when I first received it, and it has only surpassed my expectations.The art is great, and the contents are terrific. Each letter of the alphabet contains both a short, easily quipped line to read / recite, as well as a long, detailed explanation of the history of that event for those curious minds who might want to learn more. Of course, there is also accompanying art, which is very nice.I don't think this is for the very little kids, but any young learner who is also interested in baseball (and specifically the Red Sox) would likely very much appreciate this book. I know this would have kept me very entertained as a little one.I highly recommend this book - especially as a gift for a Red Sox fan to be - and have since gone out and purchased two other copies for friends with children who are on their way to joining Red Sox Nation.Definitely a five star product in my book!

Once again, another Red Sox stocking stuffer put away in a carton until Christmas time. I did peek through this book and it was written and illustrated beautifully. Just love it and the little boy who receives this from Santa Claus will love it too.

My husband is a big Red Sox fan so I bought this book as a gift from our daughter, who's a newborn. I liked that you could read it on multiple levels - just the ABC's when she's little, or read the info on the sides for more in depth info when she's older.

I had read about Matthew Biancaniello in a magazine before our trip to LA four years ago and the Library Bar was high on my bucket list of destinations. We arrived at the bar, and fortunately, Matthew was there. He came to the table to introduce himself, and then asked "what do you like to eat?" Intrigued, we told him---- and we LOVE our food. Round one arrived and we were so blown away- honestly, I can't remember exactly what he concocted for us- that when the glasses were empty- there was no time wasted before he ran with our suggestions and round two arrived. Equally compelling as the first round, we enthused and commenced chatting- and by round 3- we had spent easily the most interesting night of our trip. We loved hearing about his passion for culinary mixology- and really loved his almost psychic ability to surprise us with his amazing cocktails. Needless to say, I have been eagerly awaiting for him to become an author since that night. "Eat Your Drink" arrived today, and I sat down to thumb through it- and the next thing I knew- I had read it cover to cover. Beautifully written, and beautifully photographed- Matthew takes you through 4 courses ( and an amuse bouche and after dinner section) of culinary cocktails that are gorgeous, and mouthwatering. Honestly- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for Adults, if you get my drift. I won't tell you that all of the ingredients might be easy to get, especially for someone like us in the Midwest- but he lists sources- so you can hunt down the most exotic ones.... Also, once you read Matthew's book, you most certainly will be inspired to do some substituting and concocting of your own. I am looking forward to making these tantalizing and beautiful drinks- but for now, I am going re read it one more time..... I'll look forward to anything Matthew has coming his way. His talent and his imagination know no limits. I'll have another round please.

Well we are a bit lucky here in Los Angeles because it is home to the incomparable Matt Biancaniello. Honestly, if you have never met Matt, BUY THIS BOOK. Then buy a plane ticket to LA and track him down. To have even a glimpse into his genius is to have transformed your cocktail exploration. And as in typical Matt fashion, he makes his insanely complex drinks incredibly accessible. I have no idea how he does it. But that is the intangible of Matt Biancaniello. His optimism and enthusiasm for life is literally mixed into his brilliant cocktails and you can feel the energy from the moment you open the book.Having been in the alcohol business for 12 years, I have been to almost all of the "best bartenders" on earth. But I can tell you that nobody, and I mean NOBODY is in the hemisphere of Matt Biancaniello. This man is in a league of his own.There is one problem with Matt and his genius cocktails, however. So I should put out the warning NOW....WARNING: Once you have tried Matt's cocktails, one you have seen the light, THERE IS NO GOING BACK! You may never want a cocktail from your "favorite" bartender again. Because does your "favorite" bartender even make cocktails? After reading this book, you will discover that the answer to that question is a resounding NO.Can you handle the truth? GET THIS BOOK!

The cocktail recipes are unique and sound really interesting. The ones that I've tried are very tasty. The only negative is that some of the ingredients are not all that readily available if you're not near a great farmers market like Santa Monica, but you can usually find an alternative that will still give you a reasonable facsimile.

I love this book. His imagination and precision are possibly unparalleled. A stunning work of art on many levels. The ingredients he brings together and the tastes they conjure are magnificent and leave the reader eager for more.

If you ever have the opportunity to experience Matthew Biancaniello in person, as a private cocktail chef or at his restaurant in Malibu, Mon-Li, do it!! If you can’t- this is the next best thing as it will teach you how to make some of his insanely fresh concoctions at home- they’re like nothing I’ve ever tried before!

I ordered this as a gift after Matthew Biancaniello was a guest on my favorite podcast Ologies (ft. Alie Ward). This book is so cool! A lot of the drinks use special ingredients or tools not found in an ordinary home, but the pictures are beautiful and the directions are clear.

AMAZING! Absolutely love Matthew and this book! It is an adventure of drinks that lead you down a path that tickles your tastebuds and opens a part of your palate that you didn't know existed. He does a wonderful job in taking you from appetizers to dessert through fantastic drinks. You won't go back to your boring vodka red bull after drinking his drinks and using this book as your guide! Must read! Follow him on social media as well! You are the best Matthew!

Both savory and sweet, Matthew Biancaniello's cocktail creations are incredibly tasty and leave you feeling great - not hungover. was a great resource for some training we did at church......

I bought a hardcover edition of the book in April 2017 and except for the cover, everything is black and white, no color pics. This bothered me intially until I started reading the book. I think people are failing to realize that the title of the book isn't "Dictionary of Biblical Images." It's about IMAGERY - the mental picture that was meant to be created in the minds of the readers by the original authors.As to the text, I am only a little bit of the way in but I am absolutely loving it. Granted, I just completed a life-changing 2 week field study with Dr Beck, so I am predisposed to love his written works. The only negative part of the trip was that I didn't have the ability to pause and rewind him when he spoke. Having this book is the next best thing to walking alongside Beck in Israel as he explains what different items and locations meant in the cultural context of the original writing. It is loaded with Scripture references, so you could make each entry into a brief Bible study if you wanted. I'm planning on just reading through and coming back to the individual entries and Bible references as needed.

This book will be very helpful as I study the scriptures. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a greater understanding of imagery.

I was somewhat disappointed to open the book and find out the pictures were merely black and white photos. I really expected to see color photos since the book itself has color photos on the cover. I saw the first black and whites and thought to myself that surely there must be some color photos, so I thumbed through the book and saw absolutely none. The only color photos are on the front of the book. The book reminds me of an elementary school textbook from years ago. To be fair, I haven't read the book completely because I just received it today. The book is actually smaller than I expected since it is called a dictionary and it has 282 pages. I own another Dictionary of Biblical Imagery written by another author(s)and it has 1058 pages with no pics. I was excited about this book because I believed it actually had color photos and would serve as a supplement to my studies. I was expecting something that was a bit more scholarly and visual with color photography since we are in the digital age.

The Look inside features of the book showed it had colored photos inside, but they were all black and white. Very disappointing. Tried to get the right book sent the second time but still received the same one.

I bought this book as well as another for my kids who are Lego fans. I ended up reading both of them when it turned out that my sons would rather build Legos than read about them. The first book was a detailed history about Lego which was well-detailed, but read like a dry textbook.Bender's book, however, was a fun read and written with plenty of wit, particularly as he describes the Lego conventions (which anyone who has attended comic and toy cons will easily relate) and his entrance into the Lego culture and community. It also made me appreciate this "child's toy" a lot more, which is something my parents never purchased for me (a bit too pricy in my days) but I've gone overboard for my kids --- the cost of their STAR WARS sets probably cost more than the original models made by George Lucas.As other reviewers have said, this isn't a novel which will change your life, but it will keep you entertained with each chapter.

This book is interesting as a well-researched study of the adult LEGO fan community, but it is also utterly charming as a peek into the author's childhood and young adulthood as a fan of Legos and a lover of his wife and new daughter. A treat!

The author experiences all the ups and downs of life while trying to rediscover a childhood passion. I love this book and recommend it to any avid builder, or just anyone who likes a good story.

This book has a fantastic cover that initially drew me to it. The idea of an adult man reconnecting with a childhood love of building bricks was also fascinating.It's billed as a memoir, or at least that was what I thought it was, and has elements of a "project memoir" wherein the author delves into a certain subject or theme with a goal in mind. In this case, Jonathan Bender wanted to research AFOLs (adult fan of LEGO) as well as become one himself.But I would call LEGO: A Love Story more of a researched book than a memoir. Yes, Bender shares some of his personal experiences, and the story is told through his eyes as he joins LEGO conventions and tours the headquarters in Denmark and the U.S. headquarters in Connecticut, but in general it's a feature about AFOLs and the history and future of the LEGO company.I did learn a lot about legos. First off, you never call them "legos." LEGO is the brand, and should only be used as an adjective as in "LEGO building blocks" or "LEGO kits," or in reference to the company itself. After reading 300 pages of correct usage, I'm probably a convert and will be annoyed by everyone else's incorrect use from here on out.I think that this book would definitely appeal to adults who play with or collect LEGO, but also to anyone who remembers LEGO fondly from their childhood. Reading this book made me happy that my son's collection is steadily growing, and honestly makes me look forward to tackling bigger projects with him.This book could definitely be a popular Father's Day gift -- from a grown son who remembered building LEGO with his dad, or to a new father who has the opportunity to legitimize his LEGO play once again. But then again, the whole idea behind LEGO: A Love Story is that LEGO can appeal to adults in a completely unique (and legitimate) way.

Early in LEGO: A Love Story, I found myself wondering about author Jonathan Bender's narrative. It is easy to grasp the themes of his book; exploration of the world of Adult Fans of LEGO (AFOL), from the conventions to the build challenges to the interesting people that make up the LEGO community; a well researched look inside LEGO, from the corporate headquarters to the LEGOLAND amusement parks; a personal odyssey as one person attempts to rekindle his love of LEGO and building with bricks while trying to build something more - a family. However, the early chapters seemed choppy. Bender's central idea within a chapter made sense, but he would include some passages that did not seem to fit. Suspect editing is how I rationalized the early chapters because once I started on the latter half of the book, it flowed much better and I was rewarded with a much better book. A book that rekindled my own fascination with LEGO bricks, love of building, and a need to share the LEGO experience with my own in-house LEGO builder, one whom has not succumbed to the Dark Ages (the period of time when a person does not play with LEGO bricks, usually starting at age 13. Thankfully, Jonathan Bender is not a master builder, there is a lot of comedy to mine from his early attempts and, unbelievably, he includes pictures of his early builds. Bender may not be proud of his horse, but at least he has the humility to include a picture of it. It is a testament to would-be LEGO builders everywhere that, yes, there is someone worse than you. However, once you gaze upon it, you cannot help but go looking for your long forgotten LEGO bricks; after all, *I* can build better than that. I think that is what drives the early chapters of the book, Bender is recalling his own childhood, and through him, the reader is as well. The common element of most childhoods is the LEGO brick.The early chapters, while very good at moving the narrative along, seemed to lose focus on the overall message of a chapter; thoughts and anecdotes were inserted in apparently haphazard fashion. It is as if Bender did not want to leave any of his notes on the cutting room floor. However, that particular issue does not permeate the latter chapters. Tight editing and excellent insights result in a very enjoyable chronical of one person's immersion into LEGO.While LEGO: A Love Story is, of course, focused on AFOL's, LEGO, and the building of a family, it is the interaction between LEGO and the AFOL's that provides valuable insight into any community outside of a corporation. Whether the community is involved in a particular software, hardware, car club, or whatever, it is fascinating to see how LEGO uses, ignores, promotes, and watches the fans of their product.This book had the desired effect on one reader; the need to build something using LEGO bricks. The patterns are so cute. I bought it for the hedgehog on the cover which I later discovered I had purchased on line oops. I guess that just shows how much I love it. but I ended up making the Hippo first he is just too cute. next will be the hedgehog.

Music notation programs are by necessity fairly complex. MuseScore is a user supported program that directly competes with some rather expensive professional products. My needs were such that paying for and keeping a commercial product current was not a viable option. I discovered MuseScore in its earlier 1.x version and was immensely pleased with the upgrade to 2.x. The old documentation was so-so (for version 1.x) but barely adequate. (It could be viewed online or downloaded as a PDF.) Note: I did have some previous experience with a commercial notation program about a decade back... but keeping it current (as the computer OS was upgraded) was not cost effective for my needs.)Version 2 of MuseScore is a much more polished program. The online instructions/reference manual are far more polished than the 1.x version... it is accessed through a browser -- and can be downloaded as a PDF. The online reference manual is a bit terse at times, making it necessary to experiment a bit to "get" how a feature works.The book is a well thought out explanation of the program -- it's independently produced and has about double the page count of the online instructions. It has numerous screen grabs as illustrations. (Minor gripe is that they're from a Windows computer and look clunky compared to the windows on a Mac.) Each chapter had a brief chart of the functions (and related commands) covered therein. Obviously with a book, you can place sticky notes -- and even keep a couple of fingers in the book so you can flip back and forth between relevant sections as you work on a notation project. (Once you're more experienced with the program, the need to have the reference manual at had will be reduced -- but there are many features that one might not encounter frequently, and having a reference manual is a big help

This is an excellent book to get the most out of MuseScore, which is an amazing piece of music notation software. Especially with the release of version 2 of MuseScore the program took a great leap in complexity so a book like this is a great adjunct to the online help that is built-in to the program. Marc has taken great pains to lay this book out in an orderly fashion so that anybody new to MuseScore, whether brand new to computer music notation software or moving over from some other program like Finale or Sibelius. Part of the price of this book helps to underwrite the continued development of the software, which is a great thing. I've been a long-time user of both Finale and Sibelius and I love MuseScore and recommend it to all my students and anybody who asks for a recommendation. And I will start suggesting that they all buy this book, too!

I love this book...MuseScore is a marvellous free program for composing or transposing music. I play recorders, particularly a bass recorder and I like the sound of the bass, but with much music written for soprano or alto recorder, requires mental gymnastics to play as written in the treble clef when one is used to music written on the bass clef staff, and MuseScore enables easy transposing of treble clef music into the bass clef. In any event, the MuseScore program has a million and one ways one can do all kinds of things, and this book, "Mastering MuseScore..." clearly and accurately defines what you can do with the program, and the various ways in which you can do it. If one is going to use MuseScore to write and print music, this book is a must-have for information and consultation when one wants to do something but doesn't quite yet know how. It covers all the bases.

MuseScore 2.3 isa free and open-source music notation program for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. It explores the process of note entry and editing including chord symbols, slash notation,time signatures, repeats, tablature, hidden items and more.. It is easy to read and follow, and I've always had good luck looking something up when I have come to a dead-end trying to figure out one of the more esoteric features of Musescore 2.3. Lots of illustrations are included for ease of use. MASTERING MUSESCORE is everything I needed to find out about the inner workings of using MuseScore, which is so powerful that many features may be overlooked without a good book like this. Musescore is free music notation software, but I'm so glad I bought the book, so I can master it. Literally.

Learning MuseScore hasn't been easy for me. The online FAQ or "manual" leaves a lot to be desired. Enter the Mastering MuseScore book! Wow! What a difference. Search the topical index in the back of the book and go to the page(s) that tell you what you need to know. A simple concept that worked for decades and in this case, much better than online. I'm just a beginner and this book has saved me much frustration. I highly recommend it, especially if you are just getting started. Kudos to the authors!

The MuseScore program is free, but learning how to use it is challenging. That's not due to deficiencies in the program design, but because music notation is inherently pretty complicated, and it takes some time to figure out which options work best for the particular score you're trying to create. This manual makes it easier -- and purchases help support a wonderful open-source project.

I have been using MuseScore for about a year now. It is a wonderful program. This book will help me get to the next level in composition and providing beautiful scores. This complete book of MuseScoreology leaves no stone unturned. If you have questions, this book will provide the answers. Great job Marc!!

Musecore is relatively easy to use and the book is absolutely invaluable. I use Musescore almost every day to create singing version of songs - in midi format - so I can practice the piano accompaniment, I do the same with cello duets - once again so I can practice the cello accompaniment. And for my Rounds & Canons group I can send out our songs in PDF format and also create MP3 files by first exporting the Musecore song in midi format and then using GarageBand to convert the midi file to an MP3 file. Love Musecore!
