She drew me into the world she created and I was absolutely spellbound. The characters and scenes were realistic with vivid descriptions that bring you right to the center and your held there waiting to see what was going to happen next. It has the full range of emotions that will keep your attention on the pages and on the edge of your seat. The scenes with their graphic details really brought this tale to life right before my eyes. I fell in love with the characters. Well, maybe not all. I laughed so hard when a cowboy tries to let the main character know that he has feelings for her. It was hilarious to say the least. If you're looking for that adrenaline rush, action packed, pulse racing, heart pounding, smooth flowing read that captivates you until the last page. Yep! Its right here. All the twists, turns and unpredictable surprises that just kept coming held your focus like a steel vice. Following the characters along as their personalities began to transform and shine through. The wit and charm were on full display. The main character was a joy whether dealing with to many admirers to her crazy aunt. Yep! Crazy aunt. You get more excitement then any sane person could handle. Good thing I'm not sane. Chloe left some pieces of herself woven throughout the tale you could feel her joy and determination to make a great work of art that we, as her readers can enjoy. She has a unique style that she brings full force as this tale unfolds. Chloe did an amazing job bringing this read together beautifully and with her heart. Remarkable job Chloe and thank you for sharing this fantastic read.I received an ARC for this story.

A Cowboy To Save Esmerelda is the third book in the series about the Circle T Ranch and the Trowbridge family in the early Western town of Indian Rock near Denver Colorado. This story is about Esmerelda and her Aunt Maria . Maria is the cook on the Ranch and after Esmerelda's Mother dies in Denver she takes her 17 year old niece back to the ranch to help her cook. All of the young ranch hands are interested in her and try to win her attention, but, she speaks only Spanish. Will has been on the ranch since a very young boy and tries to learn Spanish quickly. There are many secrets on the ranch and Maria has many secrets about her past to hide. There are legends of bandits and tunnels and Esmerelda doesn't know what to believe. This book is fast paced and has a lot of action. It is also written with a Christian theme and God and faith has a very important part of the story, as well as the fight between good and evil. This story answered some questions brought up in the previous books of the series and I thought it was well written with the characters in the story well thought out and personable. I recommend this book and the previous books by Chloe Carley.

I enjoyed this book very much. It was a little bit longer book than her others. It had lots of twists and turns. I kept hoping that Maria would finally see the light; but I feared that she wouldn't and though there was a flicker of hope. It was just not to be. She was just to far gone. All of the characters in the book were important to the story. Since Esmeralda's name is part of the book I would say that she is the main character along with Will the cowboy that saves her; but all the other characters in this book are just as important to the story. And did Will really save Esmeralda? I am not sure that Esmeralda needed saving. It seems that Will is the one that in the end gets saved.I would say Maria is the main character here. As I read about Maria, I thought about the song, "And, When I Die" by Blood, Sweat, and Tears. There is a line in the song that says, "I can swear there ain't no Heaven, But I pray there ain't no hell" that I kept thinking of as I read about Maria. This is a stand alone Novel; but if you read the previous Novels that Chloe Carley then more depth is added to this novel. You get to know more about the Trowbridges and most of all you learn about more about Will and what brought him to this point. There is also mention of Maria too in the other books. Excellent Book.

There are dangerous times ahead and Esmeralda turns to her faith for guidance.I really liked the plotline in this book. The characters were awesome and I had a hard time putting it down. Fast paced action, murders, thieves, secret tunnels and more. A standalone Christian Historical romance! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received.

As to be expected from such a successful fiction author, Waterloo is an easy-to-read book whose narrative helps make sense of a very confusing battlefield. Cornwell does a great job of not only setting the strategic and operational stage, helping us understand Wellington, Blucher, and Napoleon, but also weaving in personal anecdotes of the soldiers who fought and died on the battlefield.Waterloo, as can be imagined in a battle its size, was confusing. Many accounts contradict each other or, at least, can't agree on the timing and sequence of events. Cornwell addresses many of the key disconnects and lays out what he believed happened all while telling a story. When it's done you can begin to feel how the battle flowed, not in neat phases but as a series of often overlapping events played out over the battlefield. In this the storyteller comes to the fore because he's able to weave together a variety of multiple events, perspectives, and people in such a way that you see the whole and not the part. It's not just a story of the British or Prussian or French armies, or the common soldier, or the three great leaders. In the end it's a story about how that all came together. In this Cornwell was able to rely on the original work of historians - Cornwell's strength in this book is not original research, there's nothing new historically, but what makes his book worth reading is the way he painlessly tells the tale in a very understandable manner.If I had one complaint, and it's a relatively small one, it's that he switches between the past and present tenses in his writing, sometimes within the same paragraph. I think he periodically switched to the present tense to try to increase the immediacy of what he was describing, but, for me, it tended to interrupt the moment; rather than staying caught up in the story, it reminded me I was reading a book.If you're familiar with some of the post-war finger-pointing among the allies you'll understand, after reading the book, Cornwell's conclusion that, "The battle of Waterloo was an allied victory. That was how it was planned and that was how it turned out. Wellington would never have made his stand if he thought for one moment that the Prussians would not let him down. Blucher would never have marched if he thought Wellington would cut and run."This is one of those books that I still recommend even if you're familiar with Waterloo. Cornwell's ability to tell a story really pulls together the historical elements in a way that allows understanding.

As someone who does not know much of Wellington, Napoleon, or Europe in the 1800s, "Waterloo" was a complete introduction to me of one of the greatest battles of all time. And Bernard Cornwell's account is magnificent.This book was enjoyable to read. It flowed well from beginning to end. Descriptions of the battle were detailed, colorful, and gory (it is war, what do you expect?). Cornwell captures the readers imagination. He also includes many quotations and first person accounts--giving a true sense of what it was like to be there. Brilliant paintings and maps fill the pages giving the reader much to visualize the battle as it is laid out before him (this was a hard copy). I find it difficult to visualize battle movements when solely based on textual descriptions, so the detailed and vibrant maps vastly contributed to my reading experience.What I appreciate most of Cornwell may not even be his story telling prose--but how accessible his information is. The most clueless Waterloo amateur (like myself) will not be left in the dark long. Cornwell's writing will bring anyone up to speed on the basics of Napoleonic warfare: What is a column? What is a square? What is a line? And what are the advantages of each formation? Why would people march in massive columns in the open and willingly shoot each other? He describes what affect the musket, the cannon, and the horse had on 1800s tactics. He spends much paper discussing the leaders: Wellington, Napoleon, Blucher, Ney. Anyone can read this and very quickly understand the times, the tactics, and the battle itself.I learned much of Napoleon and his arrogance which I believe came back to bite him. He believed that he was near invincible, attacking two armies that together almost doubled his own strength. He delegated much power to his Marshalls (why?!) who time and time again broke clear rules of engagement. Wellington in contrast was very much involved in the battle--his calm and steady countenance exuded confidence. His troops took heart in brilliant displays of courage and (spoiler alert) withstood to win the day. The Prussian General Blucher's persistence after getting whipped earlier also contributed to the eventual defeat of The Emperor. There is much strength in unity.If I was picky I would wish that Cornwell would have summarized key events a little more. Instead of simply describing the facts and giving quick real time analysis, I would have appreciated Cornwell to have stepped back from the battle to elaborate on the significance of each moment more frequently. Part of me is left wondering--actually how important was the holding of Hougemont or how important was the charge of the Royal Scott Greys in the overall picture of the battle? Cornwell does well to say that understanding Waterloo is near impossible as war (and this battle in particular) is chaos. There are many contradictory accounts over what happened and where it happened and when it happened. Even so, I feel that he could have summarized the key events more.But that is a small thing in the big picture as all in all I found this book masterful. Before I read this I had no understanding of the people and events of Waterloo, and now I know more than most. That is why I read books! I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys learning history and events that have shaped our world. Enjoy.

As a US History major I never studied the European wars in much detail. When doing work in Europe drove by the battlefield, but since I was late for a meeting just paused. A small area, sloping hills. Did not realize how much I missed until reading this book. Not only is it about the battle, but also how Napoleon returned from exile, the alliances in 1815. and the effects of this battle on the peace of Europe for many years.The explanations of how the various units operated finally gave me a good understanding of the way war was found in the early 1800's and carried forward in our War Between the States. Squares, lines, Calvary charges, lancers, and type of artillery have new meaning to me after reading the book. Although knowing the final outcome, Cornwell is able to keep the suspense of how it happened. Such a large number of men and horses in a small area, close fighting, hand to hand, and personal accounts of death and wounding, and of loss and victory provide a sober view of the wars of the era.

I give it three stars because it does provide much useful and interesting information. However, it is poorly written. It often lacks coherence and organization and is not presented in a way that makes learning the information especially easy. Many paragraphs could use restructuring and a significant amount of irrelevant information and repetition could be removed. Why include more in a paragraph than what is necessary to convey the point? It lacks succinctness. In addition, many sentences could be modified to avoid ambiguity. One of many examples from the book on page 296: "When the Fed buys Treasury bills or bonds (government securities), it pays for them with IOUs that serve as reserves for banks." Does this mean that the payment then makes the IOUs serve as reserves for banks or were IOUs that previously served as reserves for banks used to make the purchase? After doing some thinking and reading more you understand what is being said, but why not just say it in an unambiguous way to start with? Maybe I am just not as intelligent as some students out there, but if I had a choice, I would consider reading through different textbooks to find one that presents information in a more methodical and approachable way.

Book a advertised as "Very Good Condition". However, the cover of the spine was half torn. The outside 1/4 of the cover had a fold mark running the entire length of the book. Book looks significantly used.

The book was in good condition as stated from the seller, and shipment was fast so I was happy to receive it sooner than stated. The book itself is a good read. The author uses light sarcasm for humor making it funny and easy to learn concepts quickly. He, the author, breaks down key points to help you further understand each concept fully. Torrey's well written book touches the heart as she goes through her days in the classroom with her special education students. She introduces each child and their needs, but especially Venus her most challenging student, who most people had given up on helping. Torrey's tenacity and concern for Venus worked small "miracles" in this troubled and abused child's life.There were times while reading the book that I couldn't put it down and read with a broken heart for Venus.I highly recommend this book for your reading. If you've ever spent time with children in an educational setting, you will especially enjoy Beautiful Child.

This fabulous page turner was so moving from beginning to end . As I continued to read about Torey’s determination to help Venus , I wondered if I would have had the patience or willingness to persevere as she did. Kudos to Torey for reinforcing my belief that where there is life, there is hope.

I am just an aid for special ed kids, arriving at this career about 10 years ago at age 50. Thankfully, teachers have allowed me to sing with and to them. I have held them in my arms. I have made learning a game. I have danced with a child who could barely walk. I have had fleeting moments of joy and despair, and thought more than once I should write a book about it. Now I don't have to. Torey captured this gift she and I were both given. I say this not for bragging, but so kindred spirits may conceive of doing this undervalued but priceless work. Torey, you are a beautiful teacher. Well done.Lynn

I have followed Torey Hayden's teaching career from the beginning. Each year her teaching methods srrm to evolve as she is met with a new group of students. All of Torey's pupils are individuals to her, each with their own set of problems and strengths. Most learn much from Torry, who seemo to learn much from each of them.

The amazing part about this story is that it's true and Torey touched real people and changed their lives for the better. Truly astounding. I must admit I wasn't a complete fan, but definitely a great read.BTW: I'm biased - focus on learning theories involving behavior mod as a psych student.

The teacher has to learn to go inside the child's personal life and home life to fully understand how to reach the child. She goes above and beyond to unravel the façade of the child. To understand the complexities of the child's behavior she must first learn to understand the child.

When author Torey Hayden first meets Venus, then 7, the child is perched atop a high wall on the school playground. Venus rarely speaks and goes into attack mode when jostled by other children on the playground. Venus remains a silent observer in the class she shares with 9-year-old Billy, a gifted child with a minor case of dyslexia and a propensity for impulsive behavior; 8-year-old Jesse, a boy who has Tourette's Syndrome; 6-year-old twins Shane and Zane who have the congenital condition of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and part-time resource pupils 8-year-old Gwennie, a bright girl whose behavior and verbalizations are described as autistic and 8-year-old Alice, also given to frequent non sequitors interspersed with very poignant comments.This group finally unites after a series of setbacks. Early in the year, fighting broke out contantly among the boys; Venus, too displayed a fair share of aggression whenever she attacked someone who bumped into her. The tension among the pupils was paralleled in Torey Hayden's differing educational approaches with her aide, Julie.Matters reach a critical head when Venus is placed on homebound instruction for 2 months after she severely injures another child. During her absence, the boys team up by forming the poignantly ironic named group, "the Chipmunks" as a way of helping one another and gaining positive reinforcement. When Venus returns, she literally has to start from scratch. A chance encounter with a 1980s comic figure, She-Ra, sparks her curiosity; from there, Venus and teacher Torey Hayden knock down yet another wall. Venus expresses her wishes for a better life and for power and a "magic sword" like She-Ra has; she begins to inch her way into the group.More walls are knocked down; Julie is transferred to another school and an aide named Rosa takes her place. Rosa and Venus bond instantly; the love between them is truly heartwarming. The boys make remarkable strides as well. In one especially touching exchange, Billy tells Jesse how he has overcome his bigotry towards other races because he personally knows Jesse, who is a member of a different race than Billy. Major issues are explored; each child has good insights and heartwarming observations. During such round table discussions, even more walls come tumbling down.As Venus develops more confidence in herself and relies less on She-Ra and her magic sword, she develops friendships in the class. Alice literally takes Venus under her wing and insists on "being best friends" with her. A good placement in a loving, nuturing home after having endured years of abuse and neglect also accelerates the progress Venus makes. I like the way the book provides updates on the progress of each pupil.John Mellencamp's 1983 smash "Crumbling Down" could be the soundtrack of this book along with David Bowie's famous cover of Hunky Dory's 1971 hit "Changes."I can't recommend this one highly enough.

Torey is an inspiration , her ability to connect and help kids is heartwarming. The world needs more people like her and our schools too. I couldn't stop reading once I started and was glad she listed all the children at the end of the story with updates. This is the second book by Torey that I have read. First one was The tigers child , I was hooked after that and now set out to read them all. I did noticed and wonder why only 3 of her books are on Amazon for my Kindle. I hope the rest will be available soon for her kindle reader fans.
