I bought this book to my son who after seeing the movies got hyped on learning about the other stories. I couldn't find some of the books in my country (Costa Rica) so I started looking for other options. I was about to buy the books separately but then I found this one at an unbeaten price. Although it's a bit heavy after a while--they're all 7 books included-- it's great to have them all together. The cons I found is that 1. since it's paperback the corners of the cover get aged easily and 2. really fine print. For children looking for easy reading, this is definitively not it since there are words and words with few pictures on each story. If your child loves reading no matter what, then proceed to check out. My son already finished book 1 and 2 and still reading!-----------Me encontre con este libro porque no encontraba todos los titulos individuales en Costa Rica. Iba a comprarlos por separado pero me encontre con esta compilacion de los 7 libros de Narnia a un precio inmejorable. El libro es pesado (son 7 libros en 1) y la letra es pequeña y las esquinas de la tapa se doblan facilmente, pero creo que fue muy buena inversion. NO es lectura ligera para niños que no les guste leer porque no tiene muchos dibujos... si al caso un par por libro. Sin embargo, si es un avido lector, le gustara mucho pues tiene una descripcion inmejorable. Se lo recomiendo! My hijo ya se leyo el libro 1 y 2 y aun lo esta leyendo :)

Para ser claro: me encanta el texto. Lo que no me gusta es el libro como entregado por Amazon. Este libro no es el mismo que encuentro en las tiendas. La cubierta es apenas papel duro (sin revestimiento) y tiene un error de impresion, y el papel se siente barato. Si solo quiere leer los libros de C. S. Lewis, compre esto. Si quieres nostalgia en tu estantería, pide esto en otro lugar.

Este libro es hermoso. No lo he podido empezar a leer, pero es...glorioso. Tal vez la letra sea un poco pequeña (necesitare espejuelos) pero, por lo demas es perfecto. Sus mapas, dibujos y tambien tener los 7 libros de Narnia en uno. Es asombroso tener esto en mi libreria. Lo disfrutare al maximo.

C.S. Lewis nunca se propuso hacer versiones fantasticas de las historias Biblicas, mas bien quiso que su profunda cosmovision y entendimiento del Cristianismo se destilaran en cualquier tema que escribiera. Y en las Cronicas de Narnia sucede justo eso, a lo largo de los relatos de fantasia llenos de belleza se hace presente una corriente Biblica que provee un entendimiento mas profundo de las verdades de Dios.Curiosamente, aunque es una obra de fantasia y no especificamente de teologia, al final de su lectura creo que terminamos apreciando mas al Dios de la Biblia y entendiendo mas de Sus principios que con muchos otros libros teologicos.

While this series is my favorite and I'm thrilled to have it in Spanish, I was very disappointed with the quality of the cover. Instead of the same glossy cover as the English version, the Spanish version has a mat cover and the printed outer edge separates from the stronger backing when in contact with packaging materials.

Frances K. Pohl is the Dr. Mary Ann Vanderzyl Reynolds Professor of Humanities and Professor of Art History at Pomona College in Claremont, California. She received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles. Since moving to Pomona in 1985, she has taught a wide variety of courses in nineteenth- and twentieth-century North American art. Her work has focused on the art of the United States, in particular the work of Ben Shahn, about whom she has written two books, and the relationship between the visual arts and working-class culture. I teach an Art in the Americas course that ranges from the time of Western contact (Cortez's invasion of Mexico) through the end of the 20th century. This is the course text I use. The book closely connects art of all kinds (paintings, sculpture, architecture, other created items that are lumped under the term "material culture") with social and cultural history of the Americas. The focus is broader in the earlier chapters but narrows to the U.S. in the later chapters.The illustrations are large, pretty true to actual colors and plentiful - thus the higher price. The text is clearly written, chronologically organized and detailed. Covering 500 years of art and its plentiful illustrations, it is a large book. The paper used is heavy, calendared (glossy) stock so the book is heavy as well. The shipping weight is 5 pounds. But worth the cost and the wear and tear on your backpack.The price charged on Amazon is sometimes as little as half what college bookstores charge so I recommend getting it here rather than on campus.

Definitive. The book is huge and expensive -- but great pictures which, of course, increases the cost. There are other books on the history of American art, most dealing with more specific issues, but this one is the best I've read on general themes. Artists and art movements are discussed in terms of the social and cultural climate of the time.-- quite valuable. There is also extensive coverage of Mexican and Native American art, both as independent genres but also as they affected and were affected by more mainstream currents. Frankly I skipped over a lot of this because it has limited interest for me, but it's there should my cultural biases get overcome. Also covers domestic art (e.g. quilts, sampler, etc.) as well as furniture, photography and architecture -- again skip-able if one wants to make headway in this gigantic book.This is not bedtime reading, but given the scope and complexity, it is quite readable.

This is required reading for my Art History class. At over 550 pages my initial reaction was a groan..I am delighted that my dread was unfounded. It presents the connections between works of artists and the society in which they are created. While it is a college textbook, it has a wealth of information on the art movements in America, and is a realatively easy read. Rich in illustration and color plates even those only moderatly interested in art should find something of value without reading anyting more than captions.

This textbook was required for my upper-division general education requirement and it was a very useful and informative textbook. I actually enjoyed reading the assigned readings and interpreting the various pieces of art in it. Highly recommend for any professor considering this for an art history course or any art student!

I loved this book. Thomson gives powerful insights into film history in this look into the role of desire in shaping the movies and of the movies in shaping desire.

I loved this book so much. Thomson once again gives new insights into familiar classics. His essays about Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant are so excellent. At times you think he may be stretching a point or two but then you think about it, and you know he isn't. His understanding of the studio system is second to none. Thomson has dedicated this book to his great friend Kieran Hickey. If there were a time machine, I would love to go back and join Kieran and Dave at the movies. What a delight that would have been. Dave, thanks for a wonderful read. You've done it again.

I have read several books by Thomson and even when I've disagreed with a premise or a conclusion I've appreciated the knowledge and thought that went into the writing. But this book is really pointless. Or too pointed. It seems to be a compilation of about five hundred rhetorical questions, most of which go unanswered. One example: "Are hope and depression twins in America?" What does that even mean? Meandering ruminations aside, the book doesn't even live up to its premise. Near the end Thomson writes that his publisher proposed he write a book about gay influence in the movies. Well, that's not what he's written. There are numerous declarations/disclaimers such as "So-and-so was undoubtedly straight...." or "I don't wish to imply that so-and-so was gay...." And then, nothing much. As one critic wrote (I'm paraphrasing), there is no such thing as a "gay sensibility" and its influence is immeasurable. Nailing down or even isolating that sensibility and its influences was clearly beyond Thomson. Much of the book seems to be an excuse to use dirty words and to offer up examples of his adolescent self-abuse as weird illustrations of his arguments. Really, a rather silly book.

Reading this book reminded me of why I don't watch awards shows anymore. The awards shows go along fine for 45 minutes then BOOM, there is some celebrity who decides to look foolish by slamming Trump. In this book, I would read about 75 fairly interesting pages then BOOM, there would be some political rant about Trump, one even calling him grotesque. What does calling Trump grotesque have to do with the evolution of film in America? My thought with this book is the same as the celebrities - stick to what you do well because when you let your emotions show like that you look like a fool. There are plenty of other ways to see, hear, and read political rants without paying money for a book that has them interspersed throughout.

Celebrity scandal isn't normally my thing but I wanted a mindless read. Achievement unlocked with this rubbish. Even if celebrity scandal is your thing this book is worthless. I suspect the target market is senior citizens residing in Palm Springs who once sat at a table in a supper club a mere 20 feet away from Larry Stortch from F-Troop. I really can't complain, however. I did get a chance to read a chapter prior to buying. The title hints at the fact the book will likely not be of the same quality say Hamlet would be. I guess the best part of buying this book was the fact that I was able to play amateur mythbuster. You know that adage you can't judge a book by it's cover? Not so. The woman on the bed isn't posing, she is farting. Right in your face. I gave the book two stars out of my own sense of pride. Veni. Vidi. Desumo. I came, I saw, I purchased. In my defense... No, nothing. If you are wondering why this review lacks any substantial references it is because there is nothing of substance to reference.

This is the worst piece I have ever purchased. It was unreadable on my Kindle due to poor layout and formatting. The content was 3 rd grade drivel that was just a rambling rehash. Shame on Amazon for not vetting this one!

I only read the the sample and what I read was not worth ordering the book. I would say save the money for a more interesting book.

Badly organized, repetitive, filled with inaccuracies (Rock Hudson pretended to be gay so that women would stop coming on to him?), this is laughable trash. Don't waste your time or money.

Not a very well written book. I actually didn't like it at all. Very disjointed. I think I expected something better.

I chose this rating because I did not think it was well written and did not keep my interest in the book.
