Lots of pictures is awesome, it's helped me learn instruments I didn't know.I think it could be set up better, especially the sterilization notes since it's so repetitive it's hard to keep reading. It would be better to just write "disinfect" or "sterilize" or "place in sharps container" as opposed to a paragraph that says the same thing most pages. I don't want to read the same paragraph page after page but I also don't want to miss anything. Any major sterilization information should be placed in bold. See my attached pictures to get an idea of what I'm talking about.The only other thing that would make this better is to show more pictures of the instruments or materials in use, not just the instrument or material itself. This pocketbook does this for many instruments but more of these in-use pictures would really help see the functionality of the materials.Overall I would definitely recommend this because it has very good information and very good pictures.

I ordered this Dental Instrument book for my daughter who is currently in College and studying to become a Dental Assistant.This was a required book for her classes.I love that Amazon offers College level books. We have purchased many book from here.I would highly recommend this book for your studies. Well detailed. This instrument handbook is just that tool!I purchased a number of them for incorporation into my small dental assisting school. My school offers basic hands-on training which moves very quickly. The course is intense and condensed. The students are hard-pressed to master infection control, impression, making bleaching trays etc. They NEED all the help they can get. Four Stars, Preston was scarred due to a fire..A lot of mental damage..Caroline the girl next door always love him...If he wanted her in his life he had to overcome the stigma ..Which he does and naturally happily ever after the end.

I found myself completely drawn in to Preston and Caroline’s story. It was a perfect blend of serious and humorous—a longer story would have been absolutely delightful. As it was, I enjoyed reading it immensely.

A beautiful story about sacrifices for the ones we love even when those sacrifices are misguided. But love will end up the victor if we let love overcome our scars and others opinions.

Fun read I conjured up Jane Eyre as ofter as Beauty and the Beast. The characters showed the best of human kind and I also was pleased that I could enjoy the story in one sitting.

A heart breaking novel. The heartbreak of disfigurement and society. The struggle to try to find acceptance by self and others.

This book shows the heart can see the goodness in a man. Preston had to accept that his true self hadn’t changed just his outer shell.

I read it in one afternoon. Loved the characters and the writing, I was easily immersed in the Regency period. I will be watching for her books in the future!

Sure, he has serious scars, but does he think her so shallow that he would reject him just for that?Can she convince him that her heart remains his? Can he overcome social rejection and trauma? And can he realize that maybe what he needs to confront other people’s stares is having the love of her life by his side?This is a beautiful retelling of The Ugly Duckling. I’ve never read a retelling of this Fairy Tale, and I loved how Megan did it! It was exquisite! I think this is her debut novel, and I’m eager to read more of her books. The story was really sweet and the characters so endearing! I was rooting the whole book for them to finally accept they are made for each other and that appearances can’t change what can only live in the heart: true love!I especially liked Caroline’s love for Little Romeo!! So cute!I definitely reccomend this novella and this author! Totally delightful!I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest and unbiased review.

I found the story line captivating but did not like the ending. I won't give anything away but my personal take was that is was disrespectful to what battered women go through. They should be believed, taken seriously. The ending should have reflected triumph over abuse. I find the ending set the character up for future abuse in other ways i.e. A penal system.

A story about a women in an abusive relationship and the friend who is trying to help her for reasons of her own. It all comes down to someone getting killed.

Isla Hull is being questioned by the police after witnessing a man being struck and killed by a car. It was nighttime, and since she couldn’t sleep, Isla decided to take a walk. That’s when she saw the victim out jogging then starting to cross the road when he was struck by a car which then sped away. She and another woman, Beth Cox, returning home from work, ran over to the victim. Isla started CPR while Beth called for an ambulance. Unfortunately, the man died. The police then let her leave the police station with her husband, Jake. Her husband doesn’t show any interest in what she has just gone through. He’s a very self-centered man.The next day, Beth, whom she hardly knows, calls and wants to meet with her for coffee. Surprised, Isla agrees, but doesn’t know what she wants to meet with her. It turns out Beth just wants to make friends with her.Isla and Jake live in a nice place and she has plenty of money to keep herself looking nice. They had lived with Jake’s parents, Judith and Jim, for a few years before they got their own home. Isla likes Jim but Judith irritates her. Jake constantly belittles Isla and expects her to wait on him. He is also cruel to her.Beth is living in a tiny flat with Kyle, a total loser. She works as a waitress and has very little money. Kyle has no job and sits around all day drinking, smoking. and playing video games with his friends. Beth wants to get away, but has no place to go.Isla is lonely and has no friends. Jake likes it that way. She relishes it when he is gone away for business.Soon, Isla and Beth enjoy coffee and chats together. For each of them, it’s nice to have a friend. But, both are harboring secrets which soon come to the surface causing an explosion.I’ve tried not to give away any spoilers here. This is a good thriller about how friendship grows and the secrets people hide from others, in addition to the fear that some live every day. I really liked Isla and Beth and hope others will enjoy this book. Terrific author. Well done!I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

There was only one line that came to my mind when I finished reading this book - Much Ado About Nothing!! This may not be entirely true, but the ending left me feeling bereft and stranded as if I was in a desert and the story was the mirage. Perhaps I hadn't understood the story.... Let me try to recapture it...A hit and run in the middle of the night and 2 witnesses, one is Isla a housewife and the other Beth, the woman across the street... Isla couldn't sleep hence went for a stroll and Beth was getting back from work. A single incident draws them together, and soon Beth moves in to Isla's home and sees the reality of her life with husband Jake..Author Vikki Patis has written a tale which reads swiftly, which causes interest to touch sky high, there is an absolute adrenaline rush, and the pages get turned every few seconds. The writing is really that good, the secrets hidden are so intriguing. It is just fabulous.And then it all unravels for me. The story seems illogical as the subplots are not tied. I am left with many questions.SPOILER ALERTIsla strolls only on THAT particular night, in the rest of the book when insomnia hits her, to relax, she is found smoking on the patio or drinkingHusband Jake's job is never explained, nor his night habits hinted at, but that soon becomes a half boiled subplot, which feels rushed when it comes to lightWhy does Isla never leave her husband when she has money squirrelled away just for that reason? Also if a wife is stealing money from household expenses, it is generally cash, not in her bank account which husband can access. But what do I know?What makes Isla stay with a husband who beats her black and blue, yet finds the courage to go to the clinic to abort her child but not the courage to go to the cops?Beth too stays with a jerk of a boyfriend who rapes her every other night, doesn't work, yet Beth can't leave him when she hates him. Why not? What are the mitigating circumstances stopping her?There are many such minor subplots which are not weaved well into the storyline, at least for me, to enjoy the book completely. Ah yes, the ending is thriller-y, but I didn't like it.So all my love is for Vikki's writing and for keeping me hooked till the end.

I don't know why I bought this book. It is not my usual type of book at all & t he cover is gruesome, but, i was hooked immediately the writer puts you right into her life! It is sometimes gruesome and sometimes heart breaking, but always gripping!I could almost see and smell what she was doing, not pleasant, but so insightful about a life I would not have had the nerve to live. Someone has to do it thought, and she dies it so well.

I am a Detective with a Sheriff's Department in a mid-west state. This year I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Craig on a 20 year old Jane Doe case. From day one, it was obvious that Dr. Craig was one of the tops in her field but it wasn't until I read her book that I realized just how amazing her career has been. The work she has done is nothing less than remarkable. Teasing Secrets from the Dead gave me a tremendous amount of insight in to my own case which was recently solved.

I am a retired RN and was a nurse for 38 years. In the course of my career, I have, on occasion, had to deal with wounds and diseases that would make a normal person nauseated or even faint. (This actually happened once when I demonstrated a wound dressing on a patient with gangrene to a group of student nurses.) I have even dealt with a type of wound debridement that actually uses live maggots.Even so, just in reading this book, I had to take it in small steps and it took me a week to finish it. At the same time, I was very appreciative of the detail in the writing. However, I'm not sure I would ever recommend this book to just anyone.

I like the way Emily shows how she deals with the remains of the dead: as a scientist and as a human being with feelings, showing respect for the dead. The book gives a unique view of two major disasters/crimes in American history: the mass murder of the branch Davidians in Waco, Texas in 1993 and the attack on the twin towers in 2001. Reading her personal and professional experiences as a forensic anthropologist at these crime scenes will leave you with lingering thoughts of the meaning of life and death.

This is an excellent book, telling what goes into being a forensic anthropologist and telling about her training and her work. I found her tales fascinating and only wish she had more to tell. The work is interesting and she tells of it well.

This book was highly readable and almost felt like i was taking a class on forensic investigations. I learned a ton and am amazed at the conclusions that can be drawn from the amount of hard work scientists like Emily have done.

Amazing accounts of what has gone on "behind the scenes" of several of the most recent mass tragedies in US history. Waco, Oklahoma City and the destruction of the Twin Towers. Dr. Craig also relates stories of her many years in training and as the forensic anthropologist for the state of Kentucky. Captivating and easy to read.

I have always found forensics fascinating but reading Emily Craig's book was an eye opener to the realities and tragedies of the job.Would recommend this book to anyone!

There are two books I tell people to read when they ask me about personal financial planning. Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover is one, and this one is the other. This book covers the topic in a very readable manner, is a tad less dogmatic than Ramsey's and includes some information that is not covered in Ramsey's book. Together the two cover a foundation every American should have on this important subject. I highly commend this book. One of the things I really liked about it is the hot links in the Kindle edition. This allowed me to touch a link and go to the site directly.

J.D. Roth's book is far more than a simple blueprint for managing personal finances, although it most certainly is that. It covers subjects as diverse and varied as the 'hedonistic treadmill,' which many people find themselves trapped on today; the reason why more money and 'stuff' won't necessarily make you any happier (or may even make you unhappy); and the finer points of retirement planning, debt reduction, and home/car purchasing. It is crammed full of useful pearls that, when taken as a whole, make the book an indispensable resource for navigating your way through everyday life and on into an uncertain future. Highly recommended.

This is a birthday gift to my ex boyfriend. We are both college students and need to learn how to manage our money. Of course I had to read it, although it is my ex boyfriend's. I learned about credit cards, annual and monthly budgeting. Because of this book, I have embarked on an experiment called "Track My Finance." This experiment will lasts a month and every time and everyday I spend money or gain money I write it down in a little mini book. At the end of the month I will see if there's any unhealthy habits in my spending. Then I will go back to the budgeting part of the book. That's another thing, you can skip around in the book based on what you want to learn about.

This is the first personal finance book I have ever read. What I love about it is that it pulls from many other books and sources and provides an incredibly well-balanced approach that is so helpful and easy to read. I have already recommended it to my sister and my brother, and my boyfriend wants to read it when I'm done!

I've purchased several money books during the past 3-4 years because I enjoy reading them and this one is my favorite. It's the first book I've read two times in a row simply because I liked it. JD Roth covers alot of topics in a well organized and well written book on money and happiness. He relates it to his own life experience and the book is full of recommended web sites on dozens of money topics. He covers alot of areas not necessarily found in other money books and talks about the emotional effects that money has on people. It's worth every cent.

I bought this book mainly to "give back" to the author for all of the great content I have read on his blog ([...]) over the past several years. Well, I ended up reading it cover-to-cover. Even though I had probably read all of the information before on his web site, the book does a great job of mixing the "big picture" goal-oriented discussions with practical advice for how to use money as a tool. I can see myself referring back to it again and again as I continue to apply the techniques I've learned.This would be a great gift for a young adult, or anyone trying to get themselves out of debt, but it is also useful for someone like myself who is trying to figure out what my financial goals are and how I might get there.Hopefully the author will write another book about his journey into the "Third Stage" of financial maturity: financial independence

This book starts with a nice conversation about the philosophy of what a well lived happy life looks like. In that broader context it clarifies how to think about one’s financial life and financial decisions in this framework. He gives very specific advice on how to be successful in finding happiness and financial success together. Very rich in outside relevant resources add to this book’s value.

I like to have a book to recommend when somebody asks me for information about a topic. I've got a recommended get-out-of-debt book, several recommended investing books, a few books on taxes, and so on.But I had yet to find an all-around personal finance book that I felt good about recommending to others. Most such books either fit a very specific market (as per Ramit Sethi's Gen-Y-targeted "I Will Teach You to Be Rich") or include a few pieces of advice that I strongly disagree with (as per anything by David Bach).Your Money: The Missing Manual finally fills that void. It offers sound advice on all the big personal finance topics: getting out of debt, buying vs. renting, investing, and so on.My only complaint about the book is that it contains so many external references that it's slightly distracting. For the most part, finding information online isn't terribly difficult. What books offer that blogs/websites don't is an "everything you need in one place" sort of solution. Continually referencing websites doesn't really add to that, in my opinion.That said, this book *is* an excellent "all in once place" personal finance guide. To date, it's the best one I've found. It's thorough. It's easy to understand. And the advice it offers is sound.

This is the first book that I have read by this author and it was very entertaining. As another reviewer stated this truly is the story of a stranger in a strange land. Delisle was in China for work and that was the focus of his activities, he was not there to travel or discover things about the country. It is interesting to see the reactions on both sides of when he did try to interact with the Chinese (I particularly like their response to how overtime is handled in the Canada). There is a sense of loneliness and depression that permeate the book as the author tries to set up a daily and weekly routine and find activities to break the boredom. This however is offset by his thoughts on his experiences and the anecdotal stories from his life that he intersperses with the China stories.I like that he showed the people trying to be good "hosts" to a visitor to their country and entertain him to the best of their ability - what was funny was his slightly puzzled reaction to these efforts. The drawing were simple and clean but conveyed people's reactions well and clearly showed the context of the situations he was describing. I enjoyed this novel and have bought more of the books in his travel series to see what happened to him in Burma and North Korea

After reviewing Pyongyang, which I found very interesting and have already reread a couple of times, I ordered his other books, one of them being this one. I happen to love everything about Japan, China, and other Asian nations, so as you can guess I enjoyed this book very much. Yes, I have reread it a couple of times even before doing this review. In some ways Mr. Delisle didn't really tell us anything we haven't heard before a hundred times. Yet I think some of the events, some of the happenings that happened to him, were interesting in the way he presented them to us. Maybe because he deals with the world in the form of shapes and forms and interactions, that he wants to understand cause and effect, and how things work.There is no racism or buckteeth, not sure where one of the reviews got that, he just truly enjoys learning. I get the impression that he wants to understand just for the fun of it. He desires, in the end, to understand people, why they do things and uncover life's little mysteries. Like, who is stealing the manhole covers? Was the girl who put the photo albums on his desk in love with him? Why do the hostesses on the train give a military salute when they pull into the station?Get it used or new, but enjoy it.

Because of his unique perspective as an invited animator, Delisle is able to insert himself into ordinary life in a large Chinese city without being constantly being 'managed' by state 'handlers'. The results are wry, and often very effective in stripping a rapidly changing society. He is very straightforward, without being condescending to the many people that he interacts with daily. He even gets in a little Shanghai and Hong Kong to boot! A new paradigm for both the travelogue and the 'graphic novel' formats.

It's a little smaller and more roughly drawn but you'll still get the same "flavor" of Guy DeLisle's perspective. Obviously, he sees a China different from that of a farmer, laborer, or state bureaucrat so there's still insulation from all the human rights abuses but what you do get is a picture of life in a big up-and-coming industrial city.If you want a little taste of life as a tourist or a business visitor, this is a good start especially considering the pictures. There is some of the usual analysis you've come to expect but not to the extent in his other works.

I first came to Shenzhen a year or two after Delisle spent his three months in the city, and I have been here since. Mr. Delisle should have gotten out a bit more and tried to get to know more expats at least, although understandable because his time was limited. There's no reason for a dull moment here. Nevertheless, many of his observations were spot on and made me chuckle about how things were and how some are still the same. The physical city has changed and it is so much easier to live a life with the comforts expats expect. Likewise, the outlook of the people here is much more cosmopolitan than before--although there are still many moments of cultural disjunction.The inherent story of Shenzhen isn't as compelling as his book on Pyongyang, but Delisle has found plenty of observations that keep the book flowing fast. It's great snapshot of a city in the midst of a huge transformation. (BTW, that 15 story windowless building you saw once, but never saw again. It's a parking structure that is still around.)

Guy Delisle is a master storyteller. This book (and series) is highly recommended for all who like to travel or have been expats before

Delisle's various travelogues (involving China, North Korea, Israel, and Burma/Myanmar) are fascinating accounts of travel, discovery, disappointment, and delight. Though he often visits parts of the world that are dangerous or depressing, he always comes away with insightful cartoons as a result. Now, if only we can convince him to keep going to dangerous/inhumane locations...

Love the sense of humor. Not his best book, but definitely entertaining with a lot of truth!

As a physician and having a close relationship with a sexual assault treatment center, this book illustrates very well the evils that are perpetrated on victims of sexual assault and abuse. Also, the addition of brainwashing makes the pain even greater. This book is a must read.

This was such a sad story, but it certainly proved that if someone dreams to have a future, even when the reality that she can is so against her, she can overcome her past & have that bright future. Misty is such a smart girl to have written this book, after having virtually no education. Highly recommended.

I questioned a lot of what might go on in an Amish community. Than I shared this book with a friend who used to be Amish. She said the author did a very good job with the truth. I was shocked. It is upsetting to me that parents (mothers, brothers, sisters) can be silenced and that's ok. NO, its not ok and I appreciate Misty Griffin doing something about it.

I could not put this book down. It was so sad what the author went through. I wanted to know what became of her after all she went through. I have read many stories about the Amish so some of this was no surprise to me. I just wish people would have helped her and believed her story when she and her sister were younger

This book was truly eye-opening. I have read dozens of Amish novels, and, I must admit, had developed a very one-sided view of Amish communities. I do hope that what Misty described is more the exception than the rule. I can hardly believe the difficulties that Misty had to go through the first 2 plus decades of her life. She is, indeed, a strong woman. I cannot fathom the level of cruelty of her mother and step-father toward Misty, Samantha, Fanny, and the Grandmother.What Misty described about the Amish is truly ironic. A person is reprimanded for a hem being one inch too short, and yet someone else can get away with terrible cruelties. I cannot imagine what it would be like to be the victim of sexual abuse and still have to live with the offender, knowing that nothing will be done.As a teacher, I want to be more vigilant in looking for signs of abuse/neglect in my students. It is hard to believe what Misty and Samantha went through all those years and no one knew.

I really enjoyed this book and it gives you insight into what may be happening in some of the Amish communities. It makes sense that women and children loose their rights when a secret society is left alone and law enforcement doesn't want to disturb them. Also if doctors are not allowed to see the bodies of girls that may have bruises all over them, and the reason they are not allowed to raise up their long dresses is because their religion doesn't allow for that, then the abuse won't be found out. I remember having a good friend who had 2 children, her 2 year old son had a terrible gash in his cheek, she told me that he had fallen on the toy box. I found out from another friend that she had backhanded her son very hard and that her ring tore his cheek. Years later when I was older I would remember how I would try to interact with her daughter, but her daughter was always quiet and didn't interact back with me. I look back now and figure that she was probably an abused child, I wish I had figured that out when I was young and gotten her children some help.

I just finished this book. I don't remember how I came across it on Amazon, this is not a typical topic I read. At any rate, I purchased it and read it. The story of abuse starts right out of the gate-not much leading up to the craziness. I appreciated the grammatical errors as they added to her authenticity. I enjoyed reading how Misty kept putting one foot in front of the other and continued to make her own life decisions and was accountable for her thoughts and actions. She certainly has an inner fire and strength that has guided her throughout her life- giving her the courage to stand up for herself and others while suffering repercussions. She is a testament to the strength of the human spirit given so much adversity and abuse. Good on her! This world needs Misty and those like her to advocate for the truly helpless and forgotten. As Misty states in her book, the only true victims in life are children and the elderly. Keep your fire burning, Misty.

This is a story of horrific abuse and a child's strength, resourcefulness and undying hope that enables her to survive what would drive most of us to utter despair or insanity. At times her candid accounts of extremely cruel behavior by her parents or elders is very difficult to read. Ms. Griffin calls attention to the problems of child abuse, sexual abuse, elder abuse and the evil which human beings are capable of, which seems to know no bounds when left unchecked by either conscience or society. What is amazing about her story is how her own sense of morality, her faith in God and her love for others remains intact despite the most dehumanizing and frightening conditions, and how she slowly gathers the courage and strength to face down her abusers. What goes on behind closed doors and in closed communities can truly shock the senses, and I admire her ability to raise awareness about this. Her account of life in a strict Amish sect is eye-opening but very fair, as she explores the various issues she encountered in the context of her life story. Thank you, Ms Griffin, for your honesty, your love, and for holding onto your sense of hope in a way that only God makes possible.
